Cozy Corner #1: The Forgotten Spot That Finally Belongs

There’s a corner in our living room that used to make me sigh every time I walked past it. It was completely uninspired. A chair, a plain table, and a router and speaker that had to be there, no thought really went into it. It was a forgettable part of the room, and for the longest time, I just ignored it.

But lately, I’ve been giving myself permission to stop waiting until I can tackle big, expensive makeovers. Instead, I’m focusing on small spaces in between the big makeovers, one corner at a time.

This was the first.

With a little creativity and intention, I started the transformation. I added a faux plant in the corner to bring in some life, repositioned a soft gold LED light behind the chair to give it a gentle glow, and brought in a few favorite pieces to help disguise the tech.

Next to my chair, I added small side table with a black-and-white family photo of when went to Portland, Oregon together. In the wooden vase, I had some faux greenery in there already, but I added some cheerful yellow Craspedia flowers that gave it a pop of vibrance.

On the round table on the other side of my chair, I added a fun vintage Danish bubble glass frame that hid the router. I added another favorite photo of my husband and me in a starburst frame to try to hide the speaker. And, probably my most favorite part, a crystal ball to bring in a little of that magical, curiosity-shop feel that I love so much.

It’s not a huge transformation, but it doesn’t need to be. I mostly shopped around my house to bring my favorite items together. I wanted to mix styles, old and new. I love vintage and modern things together. Plus, to create visual interest, I tried to group things with varying heights. Each piece draws your eye in, while collectively working together.

Now, instead of feeling like an afterthought, this corner feels like it belongs with the rest of the room. If you’re anything like me and get overwhelmed by big projects, try starting small. These little moments of intention matter.
